Nunasi Corporation is a birthright
development corporation wholly-owned by its shareholders
which are all Inuit enrolled as beneficiaries under
the Nunavut Land Claim Agreement. Nunasi Corporation
is governed by a Board of Directors which represents
all regions of Nunavut and their respective regional
Inuit development corporations. The Board of Directors
is overseen by a Board of Trustees which is also
reflective of all three regions.
Nunasi's mandate is to maximize profits
for it’s shareholders and while doing so, create
value added benefits such as training, employment
and other economic opportunities for the Inuit of
Nunavut. The corporation was formed in 1976 by the
Inuit Tapirisat Kanatami so that, even before the
land claims were settled, the people of Nunavut could
begin to take their place in the Canadian business
world.
