From March 9 to 15, 2008, the Arctic Winter Games took place in Yellowknife for the 20th anniversary of this celebration of sport and culture.
Over 2000 athletes from Alaska, the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Northern Alberta, Northern Quebec (Nunavik), Nunavut, the Russian province of Yamal, Greenland and the Sami people of Norway and Finland were in attendance for this year's games.
Team Nunavut came in 4th in the medal standings, winning 15 gold, 27 silver and 25 bronze.
Team Nunavut was the recipiant of the Stuart Hodgson Trophy for Most Sportsmanlike Team.

YELLOWKNIFE, NWT – The ATCO Group of Companies and Nunasi Corporation celebrated the pageantry of the upcoming 2008 Arctic Winter Games Thursday by wrapping company buildings in the host city with colorful sports signage.
