2011 Kivalliq Community Tour a Success

Iqaluit, Nunavut (June 13, 2011) – The 2011 Kivalliq Community Tour with Nunasi Corporation and NorTerra Inc. spokesperson Jordin Tootoo successfully landed in all seven communities in the Kivalliq region of Nunavut.

The tour began on the evening of June 6 in Rankin Inlet and ended on the evening of June 9 in Arviat. The tour included speakers from our sponsors Nunasi Corporation, NorTerra Inc., Nunavut Tunngavik Inc., Canadian North, Kivalliq Services Ltd. and the NHLPA.

“I’m thankful for the warm reception we received in every community. We had a great turnout and everything went as planned. In 2008, we began awarding every high school graduate in Nunavut with a Nunasi grad jacket. It was inspiring to see a sense of achievement as we recognized each graduate and presented them with their grad jacket.” said Tim Zehr, President/COO, Nunasi Corporation.

The tour’s featured speaker was Nunasi/NorTerra spokesperson, Jordin Tootoo.

“Jordin spoke about the importance of getting an education and the need to confide with trusted family and friends in trying times. He encouraged all youth to set goals and to try their best in whatever path they choose. These are messages we support and we are glad we were able to help get the message out to many youth.” said Mark Gardhouse, President & CEO, NorTerra Inc.

The community tour has been taking place since 2004 and has since been to every community in Nunavut. The tour rotates between regions annually and will next be held in the Qikiqtaaluk region.
