Tommy Akavak was acclaimed as QIA’s Community Director for Kimmirut during the 2023 General Elections, marking his third term on the QIA Board of Directors. In the same year, he was appointed to the QIA Executive Committee, taking on responsibility for the Qikiqtaaluk Corporation portfolio.

Since his first election in 2014, Tommy has held several leadership roles, including Chair of the Ilagiitunnut Fund Committee, the Lands and Resources Committee, and NTI’s Wildlife Committee.

With extensive experience in both local and territorial governments dating back to the 1980s, Tommy has built a long record of community service and leadership. He currently serves as the Coordinator of Katannilik Park near Kimmirut.

Outside of his professional work, Tommy enjoys spending time on the land through dogsledding, hunting, and fishing.
